“Hogarahogara”−indicating the pleasant dawning of the morning sky−the expression used as the title of this book, is taken from the anonymous poem in the tenth-century anthology of court poetry “Kokin Waka shu”ー“Shinonome no / hogarahogara to / ake yuke ba / ono ga kinuginu / naru zo kanashiki” (With the dawn, as the skies begin to grow light, we must put on our robes again and part, sad though it be.) --from “First Light”
